Yas Island Formula One Complex

The Etihad Airways-Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix is scheduled for October 30-November 1, 2009 at this complex.  I am no construction expert but as this photo taken from my balcony April 22nd shows, there seems to be a lot of work to get done in the next 6 months.

I am sure the complex will somehow get completed in time with enough manpower and money thrown at it. When finished,  it should be one hell of a place!  The buildings in the photo with the rounded roofs are the two parts of the hotel. The racetrack will run between the two hotel wings.

For the rest of the year, the complex will be a Ferrari theme park among other things.

I will periodically provide construction update photos until the race date.

Some more solid oinformation for you - I work for the cocmpany who is managing the circuit.

We are ahead of schedule and we are now putting the rooves on the grandstands, painting putting in lighting etc - the track will be handed over in August.

The amount of people who proclaimn to be experts on the fact that it will not be ready is astonishing.

As we have limited tickets left if it is not ready could someone volunteer to call the 45,000 people who will be coming!

Dave,
Thanks for the inside info. I am planning on attending the race so your comment was assuring to me as well as others,I am sure.

Although I never claimed to be an expert, to my admittedly untrained eye the appearance of the site from my vantage point seems to reveal much work to be done by August.

Perhaps those self-proclaimed experts see the same thing but are unaware how fast things can get done here in this part of the world.

I am confident it will happen, it is a matter of national pride.

I posted this entry not to speculate on IF the project will be completed on-time but let F1 fans see for themselves through photos the progress and they can form their own opinions.

I may just be skeptical, but I find it hard to believe that 70% (the figure claimed) is completed. However, I also have no doubt it will be finished, it has to be. But....how many shortcuts will be taken (pardon the pun!) in order to achieve it.
